ATLANTA – The Tennessee State women’s track and field team had a successful first outdoor meet, as they took home first place in the highly competitive Morehouse Relays. TSU finished 1stout of 15 teams with a total team score of 182.50.
The Tigerbelles brought home four individual first-place finishes, along with three relay teams that claimed gold medals. TSU collected 17 top-three finishes on the weekend.
Natalya Bryant started the meet off strong for TSU as she took home second place in the Heptathlon. She got first in both the 200m dash and 800m dash within the event. Bryant’s big weekend would continue Saturday afternoon as she claimed 1st place in the 100m hurdles with a 15.55.
TSU had two top-three finishes in the 100m dash, as Serenity Harry notched a 1st place finish after clocking an 11.99. Sanura Branigan would finish two spots back in 3rd place with a time of 12.23.
Branigan would go on to take 2nd place out of 62 in the 200m dash with a 24.98. Giah Thomaswould finish one place behind Branigan in 3rdplace with a 25.12, while Miracle Johnson raced to a 4th place finish after clocking a 25.61.
Thomas and Johnson both had solid showings in the 400m dash, as Thomas came in 3rd place out of 34 with a 56.92, while Johnson came in 5thplace with a time of 58.32.
The Tigers would see their 4×100 relay team, 4×200 relay team, and 4×400 relay team all notch first-place finishes.
TSU had two first-place finishes in the field events, led by Elaina Housworth who finished 1stin the triple jump with a leap of 11.96m. Alayna Darrett was the other Tiger to notch a 1st place finish, as she finished with a 1.58m jump in the high jump.
Catherine Forbes finished one spot behind Housworth in the triple jump, as she tallied an 11.59m jump to finish in 2nd place. Housworth would earn another top-three finish in the long jump as she came in 3rd out of 22 with a 5.09m leap.
The throwers racked up three top-three finishes this weekend. Leilany Laureano placed 2nd in the shotput out of 29 with a toss of 13.40m, while Ayana Pugh claimed 3rd in the SP with a 12.84m throw. Maleah Decuir rounded out the throwers with a 2nd place finish in the hammer throw with a 43.18m.
